Unleashing the Fun: Pet-Friendly Adventures in and Around Bowling Green
Hey folks, Ryan Reed here. As someone raising a family here in Bowling Green and as a practice family law attorney, I know a thing or two about the importance of family.
And let's be real, in many households, our furry friends are just as much a part of the family as anyone else! They're our companions, our confidantes, and sometimes, even our sanity savers. In addition to our dog, Rosie (pictured above), we share our house with four cats - - Misto, Latte, Carrot, and Earl Gray. All are rescues!
When it comes to enjoying all that Bowling Green and the surrounding area has to offer, why leave our four-legged pals behind? Let's explore some paw-some places where you can enjoy quality time with your furry family members.
Parks & Recreation: Where Tails Wag and Spirits Soar
Bowling Green and Warren County boast some beautiful green spaces perfect for a dog walk, a frisbee toss, or just letting your pup stretch their legs and sniff to their heart's content.
- Hills Bark Park at H.P. Thomas Park: Covering roughly 4.5 acres, this dedicated dog park has a section for small dogs and one for large dogs. The dog park includes multiple shade trees to rest under while playing with your dog, along with a dog fountain for your dogs to stay hydrated!
- Basil Griffin Park: This local favorite offers plenty of space for your dog to run and play. While there isn't a designated dog park, the open fields and walking trails provide ample opportunity for exercise and exploration. Just remember to keep your furry friend on a leash and clean up after them – let's keep our parks beautiful for everyone!
- Riverwalk/Greenways: : For a scenic stroll with your leashed companion, the Riverwalk is a fantastic option. The paved path is situated along the Barren River, offering picturesque views and a chance to enjoy the outdoors together. There are also many more miles of Greenways trails scattered throughout the city and county.
- WKU: Western Kentucky University is another great place for you and your leashed companion. A hilly walk, but you can soak in some campus vibes while you're there.
- Lost River Cave: While dogs aren't allowed inside the cave itself (understandably!), the surrounding nature trails offer a lovely setting for a walk with your leashed pup. The unique landscape and natural beauty make it a memorable outing for both of you.
Patios & Paws: Dining Out with Your Dog
After a good walk, you're bound to work up an appetite. Luckily, several local restaurants welcome four-legged diners on their patios. Always call ahead to confirm their pet policy, but here are a few spots that have been known to be dog-friendly:
- Double Dogs: I mean, it’s right there in the name! During fair weather, choose an outside seat at one of Bowling Green’s premier sports bars. As they say, they are Human Tested, Dog Approved.
- Chaney’s Dair Barn: A family favorite, Chaney’s has delectable ice-cream made on premises and a selection of delicious eats. Grab one of their several pet-friendly outdoor tables.
- White Squirrel Brewery: The Tap Room at White Squirrel is an eclectic hangout for humans and canines alike. In addition to a wide selection of beers (including their own offerings), there are frequently food trucks and scheduled events.
(Pro-Tip: It's always best to call ahead and ask about a restaurant’s pet policy, including those listed here. And remember to bring a leash, water, and waste bags for your furry friend.)
Beyond the Basics: Other Pet-Friendly Fun
Beyond parks and patios, there are other ways to enjoy Bowling Green with your pet. One of my favorites: Bark in the Park Night during each Bowling Green Hot Rods homestand. Plus, many of our most popular community events welcome leashed pets. From dog-friendly festivals to adoption events, there are often opportunities to connect with other pet lovers in the community.
A Final Thought: Family, Furry Friends, and Fun
For so many of us, family is everything. And that includes the wagging tails and wet noses that bring so much joy to our lives. Spending quality time with pets strengthens the bonds of family and enriches our lives in countless ways.
So, get out there and explore Bowling Green with your furry companions! Discover new adventures, create lasting memories, and celebrate the special connection you share. And if you ever need advice on how to legally protect your family – two-legged or four-legged – you know where to find me. Happy exploring!
